mileposts and transitions

Some recent mileposts and transitions: first, this week my granddaughter, Sadie, will be celebrating her 14th birthday. Also, her brother Garrett will turn 18 in June. Both Sadie and Garrett are in my thoughts, every day, and I send them my love and best wishes. I wish Tommy could be here to see his children experience these important rites of passage.

Another important and happy transition and achievement: my niece Maureen recently received her Master’s degree and started a new job. Maureen is Tommy’s first cousin and Garrett and Sadie’s second cousin. She recently began her new position as the Decorative Arts Intern at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, New York.

Maureen is a graduate of Hood College and the Smithsonian-George Mason University program in the History of Decorative Arts. At George Mason she focused on 20th century textile history and American textile history design, but she was exposed to many cultures, time periods, and subfields during her time in grad school.
